UC Berkeley GradSlam 2016
GradSlam is an annual contest in which master’s and Ph.D. students across University of California campuses – in disciplines ranging from hard sciences to humanities – compete to sum up their research for a general audience under three minutes. My video entry from round 1 was selected and I was shortlisted among the top 10 competitors at UC Berkeley campus. In round 2, participants go up on stage in front of a diverse audience (students, professors and general public) and are judged on how well they engage the audience, how clearly they communicate key concepts and how effectively they focus and present their ideas. It aims to make research accessible by providing emerging scientists and scholars with the skills to engage the public in their work. This was a valuable professional development experience for me and I bagged third place! I go up on stage at 32 min 50 sec.
