Battu, SF Wednesdays, July 2021
The city of San Francisco had reached out to Odissi Vilas to participate in an SF downtown revival program. We were elated to help out and spread cultural awareness about Odissi in the heart of downtown near the Ferry Building. Manasi, Maureen and I performed several items over a period of 2 hours on a Wednesday evening. We danced with the bright evening sun shining straight into our faces, and the concrete floor showing no mercy on our bare feet, all while being delighted to be showcasing our artform to the larger public in an open space.
Happy to be reunited after nearly two years of the pandemic, this piece is Battu, a dedication to Lord Shiva and a pure dance piece that shows some of the musical instruments used in Indian music. Performed by Manasi, Maureen and myself.
