Microbial consortia – A way to tackle textile industry effluents

Undergraduate research work on degradation of textile based industrial effluents, 2006

The city of Coimbatore in India has many textile manufacturing and dyeing industries that need to pretreat the industry generated effluent before releasing it into the environment. As a part of my undergraduate thesis, I researched on microbial consortia and enzyme extractions from microbes that can be used as part of pretreatment conditions for environmental pollutants released from artificial textile dyes and other industrial effluents. I conducted part of my study at the Central Leather Research Institute in Chennai. My research findings made an impact for industries to consider environmentally compatible alternatives to tackle the negative risks posed by industrial discharges on the health of the public in developing nations.
